(L&D) On October 21, 2025, the Journal of Law and Development, under the Institute for ASEAN Legal and Economic Studies (Vietnam Lawyers Association), held a ceremony to launch the English electronic edition of the Journal of Law and Development, marking an important milestone in its strategy for international integration and promoting Vietnamese law to the international community.

A strategic step in international integration

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Dao Ngoc Tuan, Chairman of the Council of the Institute for ASEAN Legal and Economic Studies under the Vietnam Lawyers Association, stated that the launch of the English electronic edition of the Journal of Law and Development demonstrates a strong commitment to innovation in academic communication, while reaffirming Viet Nam’s responsibility to contribute legal knowledge to the global community. The English edition provides a comprehensive introduction to Viet Nam’s legal policies, regulations, and judicial reforms to the international audience. Through this, foreign readers - including scholars, investors, lawyers, and policymakers - can access official, transparent, and up-to-date information on Viet Nam’s legal environment.

The journal aims to establish an international scientific forum on law and development, where domestic and foreign researchers can exchange ideas, share experiences, and discuss contemporary legal issues. This serves as an important foundation for enhancing Viet Nam’s academic standing in the field of legal studies within the ASEAN region and globally.

In the context of Viet Nam’s deep participation in trade agreements and international commitments, the English edition functions as a legal bridge, enabling international partners to gain a better understanding of Viet Nam’s legal system, thereby fostering trust, cooperation, and investment. At the same time, the journal contributes to improving the capacity for legal comparison, reference, and the absorption of international legal experience among domestic lawmakers.

General view of the launch ceremony of the English electronic edition of the Journal of Law and Development

The English electronic edition is developed on a digital technology platform that meets international standards for online publication, enabling readers to access content easily, interact promptly, and share widely. This not only expands the journal’s influence but also reflects Viet Nam’s commitment to innovation and creativity in legal communication.

“The English edition of the Journal represents a strategic step forward, helping to disseminate Viet Nam’s legal knowledge, build an academic bridge between Viet Nam and the world, and enhance the credibility of the Vietnamese legal system in the international arena,” emphasized Dr. Dao Ngoc Tuan.

Marking a significant achievement after one year of operation

After one year since its launch, the Journal of Law and Development – Electronic Edition has achieved positive results, with the average number of daily pageviews increasing steadily from around 1,000 to approximately 5,000 per day (according to Google Analytics – GA4). The total number of pageviews from September 2024 to August 2025 exceeded 800,000, averaging more than 65,000 pageviews per month.

According to data from the independent analytics platform Similarweb, the Journal’s online traffic has shown stable growth, with an average monthly increase of 25% from September 2024 to September 2025. The number of articles read per visit remains relatively high, averaging between 4 and 7 articles per reader. The average time spent on each article has also remained strong, ranging from 3 to 5 minutes.

Notably, the bounce rate has remained very low, at only 25–40%, indicating the Journal’s stable reader retention capacity. The Journal has also recorded robust growth in both visits and readership, with more than 500,000 visits from 65 countries, including readers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, and Australia.

Journalist Phan Van Lam, Deputy Editor-in-Chief in charge of the Journal of Law and Development, delivers remarks at the launch ceremony of the English electronic edition of the Journal of Law and Development.

Evaluating the achieved results, Journalist Phan Van Lam, Deputy Editor-in-Chief in charge of Journal of Law and Development, stated: The achievements obtained over the past year are the result of the close direction and guidance of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Lawyers Association as well as the Institute for ASEAN Legal and Economic Studies. In addition, they stem from the active and responsible contributions of the editorial leadership, editors, and reporters of the Journal.

“The encouraging outcomes achieved serve as a foundation for the Journal, in the upcoming period, to continue expanding international cooperation, promoting the publication of in-depth research in English, and striving to meet international indexing standards such as ISSN and Scopus, thereby affirming the academic reputation of Viet Nam,” Journalist Phan Van Lam emphasized.

In the closing remarks, Dr. Dao Ngoc Tuan highlighted the long-term role of the English edition within the legal knowledge ecosystem: “Maintaining and developing the English version not only contributes to the dissemination of Vietnamese law but also creates an intellectual bridge between the domestic academic community and international scholars. This stands as evidence of Viet Nam’s vision for deep and comprehensive integration.”
