(L&D) - On September 18, the Department of Legal Dissemination, Education and Legal Aid (Ministry of Justice) inaugurated a specialized training conference on legal aid skills for minors in Lam Dong Province.
The training conference is one of the key activities aimed at enhancing the capacity of legal aid officers, lawyers participating in legal aid, and staff members of State Legal Aid Centers from the provinces/cities of Lam Dong, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Ca Mau, Dak Lak, Can Tho, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Vinh Long.
Specifically, in Xuan Huong Ward, Cam Ly Ward, Hiep Thanh Commune, and Lac Duong Commune of Lam Dong Province, the Department of Legal Dissemination, Education and Legal Aid (Ministry of Justice) organized two conferences to improve access, awareness, and understanding of legal aid for local residents, the poor, and other vulnerable groups.
The speakers included Ms. Le Thi Thuy, Director of the Center for Legal Information and Legal Aid Support, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Chau, Director of the Lam Dong Provincial State Legal Aid Center.
Conference Overview
At the conference, the speakers presented the fundamental contents of the Law on Legal Aid, such as: the groups eligible for free legal aid services; the rights and obligations of legal aid beneficiaries; the forms of legal aid, including legal consultation, participation in proceedings to provide defense or protect legitimate rights and interests, non-litigation representation, as well as assistance with necessary legal procedures.
Particularly, the conference emphasized skills for detecting, referring, and promptly supporting cases requiring immediate legal aid at the grassroots level. Many common legal situations in daily life were integrated into the sessions, making it easier for people to understand, remember, and apply the knowledge in practice. In addition, the participants were provided with specific information about the Lam Dong Provincial State Legal Aid Center and the hotline number for receiving legal aid requests.
With extensive practical experience in legal practice and teaching, Lecturer Nguyen Ngoc Lan, Director of Ngoc Lan & Associates Law Firm, provided the trainees with valuable and highly practical knowledge.
The lecturer shares legal aid skills for minors
With the aim of enhancing skills in providing legal aid to minors, the training content focused on equipping legal aid practitioners with the necessary skills for assisting minors, including: legal provisions related to the rights and obligations of minors; communication and working skills; skills in reviewing case files and collecting evidence; as well as skills in counseling, participating in legal proceedings, and providing legal support in cases involving minors.
In addition, the lecturer presented numerous practical scenarios to help participants practice handling situations and applying the law to best protect the lawful rights and interests of minors eligible for legal aid.
The conference contributed to improving public access, awareness, and understanding—especially among the poor and vulnerable groups—regarding legal aid services. This, in turn, helps them proactively access and effectively use various forms of legal aid when necessary, while also fostering a sense of respect for and compliance with the law, as well as the ability to protect their own lawful rights and interests.
