(L&D) - After the Lunar New Year holiday, workers will enter the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day holiday, the April 30 – May 1 holiday, and the National Day holiday on September 2 in 2026.
After the nine consecutive days of the Lunar New Year holiday, cadres, civil servants, and workers will enter the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day holiday, the April 30 – May 1 holiday, and the National Day holiday on September 2.
According to the provisions of the Labor Code, employees are entitled to days off with full pay on public holidays and Lunar New Year each year. Specifically, Article 112 clearly stipulates the holidays as follows: New Year’s Day (1 day), Lunar New Year (5 days), Victory Day on April 30 (1 day), International Workers’ Day on May 1 (1 day), National Day on September 2 (2 days), and Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day (1 day, the 10th day of the third lunar month).
Foreign employees working in Vietnam, in addition to the above days, are also entitled to one additional day off for their traditional New Year and one additional day for their National Day.
In addition, Article 111 provides that employees are entitled to at least 24 consecutive hours off per week. In cases where the weekly rest day coincides with a public holiday or Lunar New Year, a compensatory day off shall be granted on the next working day.
Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day Holiday Lasts 3 Days
Based on these provisions, in 2026 Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day falls on Sunday (April 26 in the Gregorian calendar). As it coincides with the weekend, employees are entitled to a compensatory day off on Monday (April 27). Including the two weekend days, the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day holiday lasts three days, from Saturday, April 25 through the end of Monday, April 27.
April 30 – May 1 Holiday Lasts 4 Consecutive Days
The two major holidays of April 30 and May 1 in 2026 fall on Thursday and Friday. For employees who do not work on Saturdays, the holiday lasts four consecutive days, from April 30 through the end of May 3 (including the two weekend days).
It is noteworthy that these two holidays are relatively close to each other. Employees who have just returned to work after the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day holiday will work for two days before taking leave again for the April 30 holiday.
