Mr. Vu Dai Thang Appointed as Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee

On 28 November, the Hanoi Party Committee held a conference to announce the Politburo’s Decision on personnel work.

According to the Politburo’s Decision, Mr. Vu Dai Thang, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, is relieved of his positions as Member of the Executive Committee, Member of the Standing Committee, and Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term; and is reassigned and designated to join the Executive Committee and the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Party Committee, and to serve as Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term.

In the afternoon of the same day, at its 28th session, the 16th-tenure Hanoi People’s Council for the 2021–2026 term reviewed and decided on several matters within its authority. At the session, the Hanoi People’s Council elected Mr. Vu Dai Thang, Deputy Secretary of the 18th-tenure Hanoi Party Committee, as Chairman of the 16th-tenure Hanoi People’s Committee for the 2021–2026 term.

Also at the session, the deputies of the Hanoi People’s Council conducted the dismissal of Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung from the position of Chairman of the 16th-tenure Hanoi People’s Committee for the 2021–2026 term.

Mr. Vu Dai Thang (born in 1975, native of Hanoi); Party admission date: 26 May 2005. Political theory qualification: Advanced. Professional qualifications: Master’s degree in International Relations, Bachelor’s degree in International Economics, and Bachelor’s degree in Law.

Mr. Vu Dai Thang has held various positions, specifically:

From December 1997 to March 2000: Officer, General Affairs Group, Foreign Economic Relations Department, Ministry of Planning and Investment;

from April 2000 to March 2002: Master’s student at Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan;

from April 2002 to 9 January 2006: Officer, General Affairs Division, Foreign Economic Relations Department, Ministry of Planning and Investment;

from January 2006 to January 2009: Officer, Trade and Services Department (now the Service Economy Department), Ministry of Planning and Investment;

from January 2009 to June 2011: Deputy Director-General, Service Economy Department, Ministry of Planning and Investment;

from July 2011 to 2 March 2014: Director-General and Party Cell Secretary of the Economic Zone Management Department, Ministry of Planning and Investment;

from March 2014 to March 2018: Vice Chairman of the Ha Nam Provincial People’s Committee (from 8 April 2014); Alternate Member of the 12th Party Central Committee (from January 2016); Member of the Standing Committee of the Ha Nam Provincial Party Committee (from August 2017).

From March 2018 to July 2020: Alternate Member of the 12th Party Central Committee, Member of the Party Civil Affairs Committee, and Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment; from August 2020 to January 2021: Alternate Member of the 12th Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee.

From January 2021 to October 2024: Member of the 13th Party Central Committee; Secretary of the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee; Deputy to the 15th National Assembly and Head of the Quang Binh Delegation of the 15th National Assembly Deputies (from July 2021).

From October 2024 to April 2025: Member of the 13th Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee.

On 28 November 2025, he was reassigned, designated, and appointed by the Politburo to join the Executive Committee and the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Party Committee, and to serve as Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term.
