The Youth Union of the Vietnam Lawyers Association spreads the message “For the health of the community – Say no to tobacco”

(L&D) - On the morning of October 31, in Hanoi, the Youth Union of the Central Agency of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, in coordination with the Center for Legal and Policy Consulting on Health and HIV/AIDS, and with the support of the Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control Fund under the Ministry of Health, organized the launching ceremony of the writing contest entitled “Understanding the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control” in order to spread the message “For the Health of the Community

The launching ceremony was attended and directed by Ms. Le Thi Mai Phuong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Central Agency of the Vietnam Lawyers Association and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Legal.

In her directing speech, Ms. Le Thi Mai Phuong emphasized the Party and State’s profound concern for public health, considering people as the center of sustainable development. Most recently, this is reflected in Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW of the Politburo, issued on September 9, 2025, “on several breakthrough solutions to strengthen the protection, care, and improvement of the health of the People.”

Ms. Phuong affirmed the significance of the contest: “The contest is a practical activity contributing to the implementation of the Party’s guidelines and the State’s legal policies on enhancing public health protection and care, and on tobacco harm prevention and control. At the same time, it is an occasion to promote the pioneering role and initiative of the youth of the Central Agency of the Vietnam Lawyers Association in spreading the message ‘For the health of the community – Say no to tobacco’…”

The contest is organized in the context of the Party Committee of the Central Agency of the Vietnam Lawyers Association identifying the promotion and dissemination of laws on tobacco harm prevention and control as an important task.

Entries must be written works with a minimum of 800 words and a maximum of 2,500 words, focusing on key topics such as analyzing, propagating, and introducing legal regulations on tobacco harm prevention and control; assessing the effectiveness of current legal measures and the harms of tobacco on health, environment, economy, and society; and proposing solutions to enhance the effectiveness of tobacco harm prevention and control in society.

The requirements stipulate that submissions must adhere closely to the spirit of the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control, Decision No. 568/QD-TTg on the National Strategy for Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control until 2030, and, in particular, Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

The attractive prize structure includes 1 First Prize worth VND 10 million, 2 Second Prizes worth VND 8 million each, 3 Third Prizes worth VND 5 million each, and 4 Consolation Prizes, accompanied by a Certificate for each award.

In response to the call, Mr. Vu Trong Minh – representing the Youth Union members of the Central Agency of the Vietnam Lawyers Association – affirmed the spirit of participation in the contest and commitment to action: “We commit to contributing to the dissemination of the contest’s message through high-quality, authentic writings that reflect the young generation’s perspective on public health issues; at the same time, turning awareness into concrete daily actions, starting with ourselves – not smoking, not using electronic cigarettes, and preventing tobacco smoke from appearing in our working, living, and learning environments.”

Concluding the ceremony, Mr. Trinh Quang Chien, Director of the Center for Legal and Policy Consulting on Health and HIV/AIDS, called on all Youth Union members to actively participate in the contest, expressing the voice and responsibility of the young generation in protecting public health, and contributing to building the image of the staff and members of the Central Agency of the Vietnam Lawyers Association as exemplary, law-abiding, and leading a good, healthy, and wholesome life.
