ASEAN has agreed to include three Declarations on transnational crimes in the 47th ASEAN Summit

(L&D) - On September 11 in Kuala Lumpur, the 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC-19) agreed to include three Declarations on transnational crimes in the 47th ASEAN Summit.

“According to a VNA correspondent in Kuala Lumpur, at a press conference, Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that Malaysia proposed a declaration focusing on anti-money laundering to enhance financial transparency in the region.

Vietnam proposed an ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on enhancing the effectiveness of apprehending wanted criminals. Accordingly, Malaysia also supported Vietnam’s proposal, expressing the desire for countries in the region to share information with each other in locating and apprehending fugitives across ASEAN countries.

Finally, Indonesia initiated the third declaration by identifying sports as a tool to counter extremism. The focus of the next meeting will be cybercrime, particularly related to online fraud activities.

At the dinner on the same day, Minister Saifuddin Nasution reaffirmed the desire to strengthen regional cooperation in the fight against transnational crime.

This mission cannot be carried out by a single country alone but requires closer coordination among member states. This is the essence of ASEAN—the spirit of unity, cooperation, and mutual trust.

ASEAN not only issues documents or declarations but also continuously strives for practical cooperation and friendship so that, in the event of a crisis, member states can stand together to resolve it.

Minister Saifuddin Nasution also expressed his honor that Malaysia is able to accompany ASEAN member countries in a shared mission to build a safer and stronger region for future generations.”
